Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead UI/UX Designer to lead end-to-end UX strategy, design governance, accessibility, and product usability for a government-run e-commerce platform in the UAE. The role is suited to senior design professionals with 10+ years of relevant experience and a proven track record of delivering complex design systems across large-scale e-commerce, digital consumer, or marketplace platforms.

The successful candidate will lead the creation, governance, and scaling of enterprise design systems across multiple products, teams, and customer journeys. The role combines strategic UX leadership with hands-on design expertise, requiring strong capabilities in Figma, prototyping, accessibility, WCAG, design governance, Agile/Scrum delivery, and design-development collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end UX strategy for a large-scale government e-commerce platform.
• Establish and govern enterprise-level design systems.
• Lead the creation, adoption, compliance, and continuous improvement of design systems.
• Scale design systems across multiple products, teams, and customer journeys.
• Ensure product usability and accessibility standards are consistently maintained.
• Apply WCAG principles to digital product and service experiences.
• Lead and structure the design team to support scalable delivery.
• Develop programme and UX roadmaps with month-by-month milestone planning.
• Work with development teams through Agile/Scrum delivery and two-week sprint cycles.
• Establish effective design-development collaboration models, including ceremonies, handoffs, and delivery cadence.
• Re-engineer and improve existing digital services as well as design new experiences.
• Apply a citizen-centric approach to government and regulated digital services.
• Manage design stakeholder relationships and secure organizational buy-in.
• Communicate quick wins, strategic priorities, and long-term design objectives to stakeholders.
• Balance short-term product delivery with the long-term vision for enterprise design systems.
• Conduct hands-on UX/UI design, prototyping, and design system development using Figma.
• Promote consistency, scalability, usability, accessibility, and product quality across digital experiences.

Requirements & Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant UI/UX or product design experience.
• Proven experience delivering complex design systems within:
  • Large-scale e-commerce platforms
  • Digital consumer products
  • Marketplace platforms
• Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end UX strategy and enterprise design system governance.
• Experience scaling design systems across multiple products, teams, and customer journeys.
• Strong knowledge of usability and accessibility standards, including WCAG.
• Experience working in fast-paced, consumer-facing organizations where design systems support product growth and consistency.
• Strong programme and roadmap planning capabilities.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and two-week development sprints.
• Experience establishing effective design-development collaboration and handoff processes.
• Experience in government, legal, regulated services, or other highly governed digital environments.
• Strong citizen-centric service design approach.
• Ability to re-engineer and improve existing services rather than focusing only on new product development.
• Proven experience leading and structuring design teams.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Strategic thinking with the ability to balance immediate delivery requirements with long-term design system objectives.
• Hands-on proficiency in Figma and prototyping.
• Prior UAE government or large-scale platform delivery experience is highly desirable.
