Job Overview

An opportunity is available for a Senior Accountant – Logistics & Supply Chain in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The role is responsible for supporting accurate financial accounting, reporting, month-end and year-end closing, reconciliations, revenue and cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial control activities within a logistics-focused operational environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with finance, operations, and commercial teams to ensure accurate accounting of logistics activities, including transportation, warehousing, freight, customs, handling, subcontracting, and other related costs. The position will also contribute to profitability analysis, financial reporting, audit requirements, statutory compliance, and internal control improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting and Reporting

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Complete month-end and year-end closing activities within established timelines.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, provisions, prepayments, and cost allocations.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded and supported.
  • Review balance sheet accounts and resolve outstanding reconciliation items.
  • Prepare audit schedules and support internal and external audit requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, statutory requirements, and company policies.

Revenue and Cost Accounting

  • Review revenue recognition and ensure income is recorded accurately in the appropriate accounting period.
  • Validate transportation, warehousing, freight, customs, handling, subcontractor, and other logistics-related costs.
  • Review customer billing and supplier costs to identify missing revenue, unbilled costs, and margin discrepancies.
  • Monitor job profitability and investigate significant differences between expected and actual margins.
  • Coordinate with operations and commercial teams to resolve billing, costing, and revenue-recognition issues.
  • Maintain appropriate accruals for incomplete jobs, services received but not invoiced, and other outstanding liabilities.

Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable

  • Review customer and supplier account reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are resolved.
  • Monitor receivables, overdue balances, and collections in coordination with relevant teams.
  • Review supplier invoices and payment documentation for accuracy, approvals, and contractual compliance.
  • Support the resolution of disputed customer invoices and supplier charges.
  • Ensure transactions are recorded against the correct customer, supplier, cost centre, business unit, and accounting period.

Budgeting and Financial Analysis

  • Support annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
  • Analyze actual performance against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
  • Prepare variance analysis covering revenue, gross profit, operating expenses, and working capital.
  • Provide financial analysis and commentary to support management decision-making.
  • Assist with profitability analysis by customer, service line, branch, route, site, or project.
  • Identify financial risks, cost-saving opportunities, and areas for process improvement.

Compliance and Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, delegation of authority, and approval requirements.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Support VAT, corporate tax, and other statutory reporting requirements where applicable.
  • Monitor adherence to credit limits, payment terms, and financial control procedures.
  • Identify control weaknesses and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support the implementation and testing of finance policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in Finance and accounting.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience, including financial reporting and month-end closing.
  • 2+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, storage, freight forwarding, warehousing, shipping, or a similar operational environment.
  • Professional accounting qualification or progress toward ACCA, CMA, CPA, CIMA, or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls, and applicable reporting standards.
  • Experience with ERP and finance systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or equivalent.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of VAT, corporate tax, and relevant statutory compliance requirements is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
