Job Overview
An opportunity is available for a highly technical and hands-on Senior Software Developer to support the modernization of complex, time-critical applications in Australia. The role is focused on developing reliable and maintainable software while addressing challenging performance, concurrency, debugging, and legacy modernization requirements.
The successful candidate will work extensively with C#, modern .NET technologies, Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, and complex application behaviors involving asynchronous processing, multithreading, event-driven systems, synchronization, transactions, and failure recovery. Experience with HTML5, JavaScript or TypeScript, CSS, and Vue 3 is beneficial.
This contract provides an opportunity to work on technically complex applications and strengthen expertise in software modernization, performance engineering, reliability, and production troubleshooting. Experience in energy, utilities, regulated environments, or other time-critical systems will be highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Modernize complex and time-critical legacy applications.
- Develop and maintain software using C# and modern .NET technologies.
- Work with advanced Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.
- Perform performance tuning and optimize application and database behavior.
- Analyze transactions, locking, concurrency, and synchronization issues.
- Develop and troubleshoot asynchronous, multithreaded, and event-driven systems.
- Investigate race conditions, retries, and failure-recovery scenarios.
- Conduct complex debugging and root-cause analysis.
- Identify and resolve application reliability and performance issues.
- Contribute to maintainable, observable, and resilient software solutions.
- Understand and troubleshoot end-to-end system behavior.
- Work independently and take ownership of technical outcomes.
- Support ongoing modernization and improvement of legacy applications.
- Work with frontend technologies such as HTML5, JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS, and Vue 3 where required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Strong professional experience as a Senior Software Developer or in a similar software engineering role.
- Strong hands-on experience with C# and modern .NET, preferably .NET 8 or later.
- Advanced knowledge of Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.
- Strong understanding of performance tuning, transactions, locking, and concurrency.
- Experience with asynchronous and multithreaded programming.
- Experience developing or troubleshooting event-driven systems.
- Strong understanding of synchronization, race conditions, retries, and failure recovery.
- Proven ability to perform complex debugging and root-cause analysis.
- Experience modernizing legacy applications.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end system behavior.
- Focus on reliability, performance, maintainability, and observability.
- HTML5, JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS, and Vue 3 experience is beneficial.
- Energy or utilities industry experience is advantageous.
- Experience working in complex, regulated, or time-critical environments is highly valued.
- Must currently be based in Australia.
